The Amputee Rehabilitation Program is a comprehensive service offering early post-surgical evaluation and ongoing care for individuals with upper and lower limb amputation. Patients are evaluated by a highly specialized and experienced Prosthetic Team, including a physiatrist, physical therapist, and a prosthetist. This team has over 75 years of combined experience caring for people with amputation. From pediatrics to geriatrics, the Prosthetics & Orthotics Team can handle the most complex patients with medical, physical, and psychological challenges. The team is experienced in the highest levels of technology including microprocessor knees and myoelectric upper limb controls. Complete medical documentation to justify all componentry is provided to assure prompt delivery.

State-of-the-art prosthetic limbs are custom designed and fabricated for any level of amputation — to achieve optimal outcomes.
The JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute hosts a monthly support group to assist those coping with limb loss. Each month a speaker will help provide educational topics to the group and help to stimulate discussion about a relevant topic. The meeting is also a great time to meet with other members when you need encouragement and inspiration the most.
We also offer a full service Driver Training Program to help you regain your independence and connection to the community.
The annual First Swing clinic and amputee golf outing help our patients return to recreational sports and fitness for a sense of wellness and quality of life.

FAQ’s
Q: Do I need a perscription or referral to be seen by the P&O Team?
A: A prescription is not required, however, a referral is required if that is your insurance company’s policy.
Q: Will I be fitted with a prosthesis during my evaluation appointment?
A: No, this is for an evaluation by the team to determine if a new device will meet your needs. If one is necessary then the physician will write a perscription for the prosthesis.
Q: Should I bring my current prosthesis to the evaluation?
A: Yes, you should bring any devices delivered to you in the last 10 years if possible.
Q. What happens after the prescription is written for a new prosthesis?
A: The prescription is forwarded to the JFK/JRI Prosthetic & Orthotic Lab, on Talmadge Rd., and they will determine if your insurance requires pre-authorization. You will be scheduled for an appointment to measure you for the device when that determination is made.
Q. Will I be able to get therapy after I receive my orthotic or prosthetic device?
A: Yes, the physician will write a therapy prescription for you if therapy will be beneficial
