Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a program of medically prescribed and supervised exercise, education and support to improve pulmonary health and overall well-being of a person who has pulmonary disease. The program focuses on exercise reconditioning and educational classes with the goal of achieving and maintaining the individual’s maximum functioning in the community.
The Pulmonary Rehabilitation program is designed to offer a comprehensive, preventive, and therapeutic care plan built around the individual patients’ needs. The essential components of the program are assessment, patient training, exercise, psychosocial intervention and follow-up.
The program is comprised of three phases:
- Phase I – an inpatient (acute care) program designed for patients (admitted) to the rehabilitation hospital.
- Phase II – an outpatient program of monitored and supervised exercise and education, smoking cessation, psychological support and counseling.
- Phase III – designed for patients who have completed Phase II and wish to maintain pulmonary health and fitness.
Along with your physician, we will assist in placing you into the correct phase of the program to best meet your needs. In most cases Pulmonary Rehabilitation (Phase I and Phase II) are covered by most insurances. Phase III is a self-pay program. Please contact us with any questions
