What is the difference between acute and chronic pain?
Acute pain usually comes on fast and goes away in days, weeks or months, if treated properly. It disappears when the underlying cause of pain has healed or has been treated. Acute pain becomes chronic when the cause is difficult to treat.
Chronic pain is pain that exists for three or more months. Other health problems, such as fatigue, sleep disturbance, decreased appetite and mood changes may occur with chronic pan. It can cause difficulty in everyday activities and affect a person’s overall quality of life.
